Child(ren) attending a GPS school: Yes
Comment: I do not support the proposed student cell phone ban. Teachers are overburdened as it is, and don't need another thing to monitor more heavily. My student reports that cell phone use in his classrooms is not an issue, and that students understand the consequences of having them out when they're not allowed. The proposed ban feels extreme and overly restrictive, especially in this day and age of mass school shootings. Students must have an option of reaching support in emergency situations.

Comment: Vaping is currently a large issue on our school campuses and is a big health issue for our students, of not bigger than cell phone use. Instead of adding one more thing for teachers to manage, we should focus on the large amounts of vaping that occurs in the bathrooms, to the point the smoke is so thick and our student complains about it daily. The vaping makes other students feel unsafe to use the bathrooms during the school day.

Comment: 2 years ago, I received a text from our daughter that her school was in lockdown, desks blocking doors, & she was holding scissors as a weapon. Last year a student brought a gun to campus. Thanks to her having her cell phone accessible, I could support her from home & ensure she was okay. If our school is the next mass shooting location, I may not get to say goodbye to our daughters and tell them I love them if their phone is not readily available.
