ADE Diploma Seals Overview

  • The Arizona State Board of Education has approved the following seals for art, social studies, and world languages. These seals recognize high school students that achieve proficiency in related course work and complete additional examinations along with extracurricular tasks. Students are recognized with a seal on their diploma and a notation on their transcripts.

Diploma Seals Information & Process for Students

  • Students: Are you interested in earning a diploma seal upon graduation? Are you passionate about civics, personal finance, the arts or world languages? Review the to help you learn about the requirements to earn a diploma seal, and when you are ready - go ahead and submit your application! You can apply for as many seals as you feel you meet the requirements.

    Note: The Seal of Arts Proficiency requires a capstone project in partnership with a teacher mentor. Please look at the document of requirements for more information.

    Earning a diploma seal is open to any graduating high school senior. If you are not yet a senior, start compiling the evidence you will need to submit when you are a senior. Many seals require multiple years of involvement in various classes or activities.

  • How do high school students apply?

    which will guide you to the specific information you need for each specific seal. Read the specific seal documents carefully. If the application window is live, there will be an embedded Google Form link for you to submit your documentation for the seal. If it is outside of the submission window, there won’t be a link to apply.

Seal of Biliteracy

  • Demonstrate your language skills:

    This program recognizes students who have attained a high level of proficiency in English and at least one other language at the time of graduation. Proficiency is determined by completion of a set of approved assessments. Seal is noted on transcript and provided for placement on diploma. Requirements include GPA in specific coursework, passage of ELA state assessment and demonstrations of other language proficiency.

Seal of Civics Literacy

  • Share your community involvement:

    This program recognizes students who have attained a high level of proficiency in Civics at the time of graduation. Proficiency is determined by completion of a set of Arizona State Board of Education Approved Tasks. Seal is noted on transcript and provided for placement on diploma. Requirements include community service, civic engagement, learning programs and reflection, click on seal above for student eligibility requirements.

Seal of Personal Finance

  • Seal of Personal Finance ADE

    Demonstrate your financial awareness:

    This program recognizes students who have attained a high level of proficiency in Personal Finance at the time of graduation. Proficiency is determined by completion of a set of Arizona State Board of Education Approved Tasks. Seal is noted on transcript and provided for placement on diploma. Requirements include personal finance coursework, extracurriculars, college & career readiness tasks and necessary assessments.   Seal is placed on the diploma and noted on the transcript up to 90 days after graduation. Seal of Arts Proficiency

  • Share creative expressions & experiences:

    This program recognizes students who have demonstrated high levels of proficiency in the Arizona Arts Education Standards through personal expression and creative experiences in arts education programs at the time of graduation. Seal is noted on transcript and provided for placement on diploma. Requirements include specific coursework, extracurriculars and a capstone project.
