91茄子 Public Schools just celebrated its 100th day of school on January 16, 2024! Some schools held special events to celebrate the achievement of being 100 days smarter, including Harris Elementary.
First, Harris Elementary invited parents onto campus to have lunch with their students. After students finished eating, parents were invited to play with them during recess! Finally, once recess was over, students were brought back into the classroom where they played Math Fact Fluency games while their parents observed.
The Math Fact Fluency games help students to quickly and accurately recall basic math facts, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. These games foster the automatic recall of these facts, enabling students to perform calculations efficiently without relying on counting or excessive effort. Math Fact Fluency emphasizes not just knowing the facts but also being able to recall them rapidly, contributing to a solid foundation for higher-level math skills and problem-solving. With the intention for students to play Math Fact Fluency games at home, parents observed the games so that they could learn how to play.
“These celebrations are a wonderful community event. Our students and their families are great, so we love to have them on campus,” said Whitney Robson, a Speech Pathologist at Harris Elementary. “Events like this help show our students that their parents and teachers are here to support them.”
“This is a great opportunity to show up for your kids and it's an even better opportunity to meet and form a relationship with the person who is teaching them,” added a parent.
