We have adopted a school-wide organizational tool that will ensure success for all of our students. As many of you may be aware, AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) is a program at Desert Ridge Jr. High. AVID strategies are used school-wide. Because of this, we encourage the use of the AVID binder. The AVID binder will help ensure that all students stay organized, have all necessary materials with them at all times and allows for standard school supplies. This also limits the amount of materials students have to carry with them since all school materials will be placed in one binder.

To take the guesswork out of back-to-school shopping, here is a list of items suggested for the binder:

• A single 2” - 3” sturdy binder to be used for all classes
  6 or 7 three-hole punched plastic pocket folders (one per class) -
  The folders that do not have fasteners inside the folder.  
• Pencil pouch
• Pencils for daily use
• Two blue or black pens
• Highlighters - multiple colors
• Loose leaf paper
• Colored Pencils
• Glue sticks or tape
• Multiple composition or spiral notebooks Math - one for each quarter
• Science - to be used for interactive notebooks
• Social Studies - to be used for interactive notebooks
• English - to be used for notes and writing
• Ear Buds 
• Packages of 3X3 sticky notes

You can find these school supplies at a number of different locations - COSTCO, Wal-Mart, Target, Office Max, Staples.
